Castello Ducale

Castello Ducale is a historic Middle Age castle that was constructed somewhere around 1200 A.C. This incredible stone fortress was once the town of Gubbio’s defensive structure against Perugia. Castello Ducale is part of a 500 hectare estate surrounded by meadows and forests on the banks of the Chiascio river. However, the castle itself is located in the middle of a garden filled with roses and various trees. Because of its location, the castle offers various paths perfect for walking or horseback riding. The castle is also within easy reach of Assisi, Cortona and Perugia. 

Outside, guests can find a swimming pool overlooking the hillside with lounge chairs and umbrellas surrounding it. A large courtyard that can be accessed by the castle’s main entrance serves as a reception area. This lovely area maintains all the charm and character of the castle. A long table with chairs can be found here. This is the perfect place to host a party or reception.

Inside the castle, guests can find an industrial kitchen that can accommodate every catering need. This room has direct access to the inner courtyard. There is also a large dining room with a 16th century fireplace nearby. A door on the ground floor leads to a secret passageway that connects to the guest chambers, where there’s a small kitchen, a dining room, a sitting area and a pool table on the ground floor.

The castle itself also has various sitting rooms, decorated with antique furniture and some feature antique fireplaces. There’s even a terrace overlooking the Umbrian countryside. 

Castello Ducale is a large structure that can sleep up to 30 guests. Five bedrooms can be found on the second floor of the castle and a large master bedroom can be found on the third floor. Another 5 bedrooms can be found on the first floor of the guest chambers and 2 can be found on the second floor that’s accessible by an eternal staircase. This floor also has a living room, dining room and kitchenette. The castle even has a watch tower that has been converted into a bedroom. Most of the bedrooms have lovely wood beam ceilings and stone walls characteristic of the castle. All bedrooms have been uniquely decorated and feature en-suite bathrooms.
