Description
Originally a 16th century convent, and spectacularly situated in the Chianti region of Tuscany, Borga Mora has been transformed into a private Tuscan farming village. With meticulous renovation and innovative design by one of Italy's most respected contemporary architects, Maurizio Montani della Fargna, Borgo Mora features stunning blends of the historic with the contemporary and of culture with technology. Set on 2,470 acres of verdant landscape the borgo is surrounded by olive groves and lush woodlands and continues to produce its own award winning olive oil.
The original carpentry workshop, an imposing two-story stone building, houses the reception area with warm blonde wood and rustic stone walls. A personable and knowledgeable keyholder will greet guests and assist with orientation. 24 hour personalized multilingual concierge service may be arranged. Guests may relax on arrival with their complementary welcome drink. The library, also on the ground floor, boasts arches, a suspended blonde wood ceiling, various trusses, and an ample collection of cultural and historical books as well as magazines and newspapers. The galeria, which is spectacularly suspended overhead and accessed via stairs or elevator, offers workspace and wifi access. Exposed architectural elements and state-of-the-art lighting and technology combine dramatically with rustic stone, brick and natural wood.
The ground level of the old carpentry workshop also hosts the billiard room, the enoteca, and the private restaurant. The warmth of the billiard room invites guests to play games or to just lounge and talk. Impressive arches mark the entrance to the enoteca, where guests find themselves surrounded by walls lined with local Chianti wines and grappas. Private meals and wine tastings for small parties may be arranged in advance.
Borgo Mora's private restaurant makes full use of the estate’s own organic produce, including a range of award-winning olive oils. Iron framed French doors open to an expansive outdoor dining loggia. The exquisite extra virgin single oil varieties, oils from the old trees and from the new plantings, as well as olive oil blends, are meticulously paired with Tuscan cuisine to showcase the best of each. A tour of the frantolio can be arranged along with oil tastings.
The stunning state-of-the-art theatre, seating 160 people, retains its historic Tuscan charm and may be reserved for special events by advance arrangement.
Meticulously landscaped grounds host a magnificent infinity edged pool for use of Borgo Mora's guests. There are also a loggia for lounging, an honesty poolside drinks and coffee bar, and dressing rooms. Informal meals or drinks poolside may be arranged. Borgo Mora does request that guests not bring personal food or drink into the pool or other communal areas. Communal areas also require appropriate attire in deference to the cultural and business requirements of the borgo.
Outdoors, guests may stroll among the olive groves and dry stone terraces or rest in the shade of a cool loggia. Numerous well marked paths travese the Pratomagno slopes and wander through the surrounding forests of beech and chestnut trees, along the river, over the bridges and by the waterfalls. More strenuous hikes, mountain biking, horseback adventures, fishing and use of the private game reserve may be arranged.
Borgo Mora's six individual villas and four private suites host up to 46 guests. Villas overlook the olive grooves and rolling Tuscan countryside while the suites, restored and remodeled from the existing stone structures, overlook the central square. Restoration has been accomplished with an eye to preserving traditional Tuscan features. Exposed beam ceilings, decorative traditional fireplaces, and stone flooring mix flawlessly with modern conveniences. Antique family furnishings blend seamlessly with comfortable and contemporary designer elements. Although each villa displays its own special charm, all the villas feature top-of-the-line appliances in fully equipped kitchens, luxurious bathroom fixtures and Italian travertine, and washer and dryer. Central heating is available in all villas at additional cost.
Villa La Nocciolina villa provides two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a large private outdoor garden, a kitchen with ornamental fireplace and a large living room. Villa I Meli offers three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a large kitchen with ornamental fireplace, a loggia created from an old stone tower, and lovely mountain views. Villa L'Ulivo features three bedrooms, each opening to its own terrace and each with en-suite bathrooms, a large living room with ornamental fireplace, sitting room, and an extra large kitchen with dining area. Il Noce Villa features four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a large kitchen with fireplace and a columned loggia facing the square. Finally, La Magnolia provides four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, along with as its own private garden and private swimming pool surrounded by a Tuscan portico, a large sitting room with fireplace, indoor and outdoor dining and fully equipped kitchen.
Whether luxuriating in a private villa, or leasing the entire village, guests will enjoy an unique Tuscan experience. Virtually all amenities and services are available in this self-contained village, and the grounds offer all the abundance nature can provide. There's no need to leave, but Borgo Mora is conveniently close to Chianti, Arezzo, shopping, dining and rail connections.
