Description
On the coast of Bali, Indonesia just inland from Seminyak, is the village Cepaka. Here, time slows down, the impact of western society dissipates and sprawling rice paddies (which have supported families for generations) are defined by a slow meandering river. And by this river sits Villa Sungai Gold. A luxury one bedroom villa, laced with tangible indulgent luxury, generous spaces and an acute attention to detail. This villa is a unique escape, where your every need is taken care of by your private staff dedicated to you and your travelling party. All items and furnishings to be found here are hand-made, hand chosen and custom designed, from the thatched roofs made from dried alang alang grass, to the furniture made from local whitewashed teak finished in chalky lime wash and covered in stylish khaki and batik fabrics - in line with the Armani feel and elegance, to the fresh cut flowers. The layout of the villa is open, generous and well thought through. The neutral textured palette is pleasing on the eye and everything is done simply and well. Made up of four pavilions, the simple daily rituals of sleeping, eating, relaxing and bathing create the pattern of your day.
Between dips in the 11m private swimming pool with cocktail where darting butterflies skim down the river corridor and provide a constant visual parade of activity; here you will find superlative massage and yoga specialists who are on call. The villa has a Bose stereo system which can be found in the dining area, the lounge area, outdoors and in the bedroom. Sungai Gold's air-conditioned bedroom is fitted with one ultra-King bed, Egyptian sheeting, a netted canopy, and cooling fans. The en-suite bathroom is appointed with superb Acqua di Parma products. If the sun gets too hot, retreat to the 4-poster daybed or inside to the air-conditioned pavilion to catch up on a movie. Some of the amenities that can be enjoyed at Villa Sungai Gold include colour plasma satellite television, a DVD and book library, and loaded Ipods.
Whilst GOLD is aimed at couples a second king bed (and a single) is available if need be in the leisure pavilion with the same quality of plush pillow-top mattressing and bedding (and netted canopy) as is in the main guest suite. Once the lined bamboo blinds are down a private air-conditioned second bedroom is created. A second bathroom attached to this leisure pavilion serves as an ensuite bathroom for guests sleeping in this pavilion and there is a large armoire to unpack into. During the day it is returned to daybed status for use by all guests so the overall experience is not compromised. (Many guests choose to leave some of the blinds up so as to have uninterrupted views of the pool and take in the stars and jungle in a similar way to the most luxurious tented camp experiences in Africa.)
Tennis and golf facilities are a mere 15 minutes from the villa. Enjoy the complimentary full a la carte breakfasts daily including freshly-squeezed juices and premium Nespresso coffees. The other meals, snacks and extensive selection of wine are available. Food is sourced and cooked daily with local produce for both the western and Indonesian menu, at an exceptionally high standard. A professional, well trained staff are dedicated totally to you alone.
Though close to many of the attractions, world class restaurants, shops and interests Bali has to offer there is really no reason to leave the Villa or the village. Villa Sungai Gold is a welcome retreat and sanctuary from the frenzy of the other well-beaten tourist areas and within days here you find your centre. In this heavenly tactile home away from home you really appreciate the ultimate luxury - time and space. Villa Sungai Gold is located approximately 45 minutes from the airport at Denpasar, 10 minutes from the nearest beach, 20 minutes from Seminyak, and 35 minutes from Ubud.
