New Zealand is the youngest country on earth-it was the last landmass to be discovered. The dramatic setting of the Lord of the Rings film trilogy features unspoiled awesome landscapes, lush forests, wondrous beaches, amazing wildlife and a lovely climate.
It also offer myriad outdoor activities-hiking, kayaking, safaris and much more. New Zealand’s society is sophisticated, multicultural, and the honesty, friendliness, and openness of the Kiwis always impress visitors.
A unique blending of European, Maori, Pacific and Asian influences are reflected in the country’s architecture, cuisine fashion, and music. You will delight in exploring this South Pacific nirvana.
The LaCURE New Zealand villas are nestled in Hawke’s Bay (on the east coast of the North Island), known as “wine country,” with more than 70 vineyards. The region is famous for its fine Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties. Guests can indulge their various appetites at food and wine markets, award-winning restaurants and vineyards, or quench their thirst for cultural activities at museums, art galleries, home studios or workshops.
Blessed with a sun-drenched Mediterranean climate (one of New Zealand’s warmest, driest regions), Hawke’s Bay also offers wonderful beaches, sheltered coastal plains and the nation’s largest pip-fruit growing area.
The landscapes of Hawke’s Bay begin with the high, forested Ruahine and Kaweka Ranges, stepping down towards the coast, flattening out to become the Heretaunga Plains. Its wide rivers run swiftly to meet the blue Pacific Ocean. The twin cities of Napier and Hastings are the main population centers.
Napier features one of the largest concentrations of Art Deco buildings in the world, after being razed by earthquake and fire in 1931, and then rebuilt in the style fashionable at the time.
Guests might also want to visit the gannet colony at the very end of Cape Kidnappers-believed to be one of only two mainland gannet colonies in the world. Gannets are large sea birds with long, pointed wings and golden heads. As they fish, whole flocks will suddenly dive straight into the sea from a dizzying height, at speeds of up to 90 mph.
There’s also plenty of adventure to be found in Hawke’s Bay-rafting or kayaking on the Mohaka River, horse trekking, hunting and trout fishing. At the end of the day, you can return to the relaxing luxury and comfort of your LaCURE villa in New Zealand. The Relais and Chateaux properties boast Pacific views, an on-site championship golf course, gourmet food and much more.
